UNIVERSITY LEVEL RESEARCH CENTRES
VGTU’s Civil Engineering Research Centre (CERC) acts as a ‘business gate’ that can stimulate interdisciplinary research in the field of civil engineering. At the strategic level CERC identifies common projects and coordinates activities with the business and the scientific community in order to encourage cooperation, generate ideas and achieve mutual goals. CERC is focussed on:

About the Centre
The Centre of Building Information Modelling Technologies was established on 13 May 2014 to promote the growth of BIM methodology, and raise it to a strategic level in the university's academic and research plans. Leadership The Centre is creating a strong regional centre for the development of BIM technologies in Lithuania and the Baltic States, primarily in the fields of environmental, transportation and infrastructural engineering. Within the centre, the growing level of theoretical knowledge supports processes that foster practical skills and perfect professional qualifications. It is also developing strong ties between scholarship and business and a cycle of improved innovation in construction industries. Strategic role With its specialists, scientists, reserch programmes, processes and systems, VGTU understands its strategic role in growing BIM technologies. We integrate BIM into our specialised study programmes, commencing in the faculties of civil engineering and architecture, but also in the faculties of environmental engineering and the fundamental sciences. Driving innovation Computer-related technology is driving innovation and rapid change in Lithuania’s construction industry. VGTU is one of the country’s leading research organisations supporting this exciting period of transition and change. Computerised technology, information and modelling play a vital role in project planning, construction and object control in sectors including architecture, engineering, building engineering, the construction industry itself (AEC and the owner/operator, i.e. AECO), environmental, transportation and infrastructural engineering. Behind these developments sits building information modelling (BIM, SIM in Lithuanian) systems in all its forms forces, including contemporary digital and information technologies. Partnership We promote cross-faculty collaboration, as well as inter-university cooperation in order to embed BIM in taught courses and thereby further our respective academic and research interests. |
