Research activities

Vilnius Gediminas Technical University’s research has always been focused on the European Research Area. In order to achieve the best result in research, University shifts towards multidisciplinarity in science. Now, the main research areas integrate electronics, IT, transport and social sciences. VGTU is ready to participate in national and international projects and to collaborate with business sector, it fosters national and international collaboration and helps to establish ties between research institutions and the business sector. 40 percent of the university’s income comes from scientific services.
The University organizes over 30 scientific conferences per year, both nationally and internationally, publishes 20 scientific journals, 12 of them together with publishing house “Taylor&Francis“.
The University is involved in several international technology networks and organizations, thus, it enhances its standing as a state of the art research institution.

Progress and experience

Scientific research and experimental development is performed by 14 institutes, 3 research centres and 34 research laboratories.
International research projects implemented at VGTU are significant for the University. The EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation remains the University’s priority; however, the scientists also implement the projects which are important for the region and are supported by European Regional Development Fund (Baltic Sea Region programme). The promotion of the advanced technologies is the focus of the Intelligent Energy Europe projects (IEE).
